Waterfall Adventure
Over lunch we decided to hike to the waterfalls which are located in Ambleside - attached route.
The first issue we had was finding the start of the hike. The leaflet we had suggesting the walk indicated that we needed to turn left at Barclays Bank - taking the road behind the bank and the Salutation Hotel. Unfortunately Barclays Bank is shut so we had to do a bit of meandering around before we found the ' to the waterfalls' sign.
We followed the road upwards before forking off to the left into the woods. For December it is surprising how Autumn like the surroundings still are.
Autumn is my favourite month so to retain some of the pretty colours in the leaves for a bit longer is fab! It is handy we had good walking shoes on though as it was rather slippy underfoot despite how pretty it looked.
The route through the woods took us alongside a river valley. Every few hundred meters there were little falls and ripples in the river. These are where Victorians apparently went to bathe - it was quite a sort after area to frequent. I can see the appeal as it was very peaceful today.
The route meandered further up the hill - with a variety of made made steps, natural stones and tree roots underfoot. It wasn't far to walk, but there needed to be some concentration underfoot to keep a stable balance.
The main waterfall was amazing - I did film it, but I seem to be having some difficulty in uploading it for everyone to see. We continued to walk up to the top of the falls, over the bridge where we took the photo below looking down. The route then came back down the other side of the river back into Ambleside. It was a fantastic walk and only took us around half an hour for some great waterfalls.
