White Moss Woods Walk
We drove five minutes from Ambleside towards Grasmere where we located a parking area for the White Moss Walks. We had no idea what was here before parking up - this was certainly a follow our nose and see where we ended up type of walk.
We had our 'hike on' to try and make it as far as we could while we still had daylight and the quick pace paid off. About 3/4 of a mile into our walk we reached the edge of Grasmere Lake. The trail to the main Lake was very accessible via the woods, but there are tougher routes to take if you fancy a challenge.
Naturally we couldn't resist a challenge and headed up the stone pathway up the hillside. We were hoping that we would stumble on the Rydal Caves - but we never reached these - Sad Face!
The extra height was worthwhile though - from the top we had fantastic views of both lakes. The first picture is Rydal Lake and the second picture is Grasmere Lake.
From the top we meandered back down the hillside into the woods. We were really disappointed though as the sheep were trying to create some great photo opportunities for us - firstly up on the hillside and then balancing on walls in the woods. Without an SLR camera with us the zoom on our phone cameras wasn't good enough and I failed to capture that epic picture. It was however hilarious to see how high a sheep could jump to get over the wall in the first place - quite remarkable!
We had a fantastic walk - in some beautiful scenery - really impressed considering we stumbled on this walk by accident. You could certainly have spent several hours out here exploring and hiking around both the Lakes. I also spotted lots of trail runners out - nearly had to go back and find the trainers and do an extra lap!
