Windermere Lake by Boat
Sunshine you say! We were expecting a whole rain filled day! What a lovely surprise to have such great weather to visit Lake Windermere. We drove a short way down the road to a small town called Bowness-on-Windermere. On arrival it took us ten minutes to walk from the car parking in the town down to the Lake front where we found the tour boats. We had not 100% decided whether or not to go out on the Lake but as the sun came out we thought it could be quite enjoyable.
We decided to buy tickets with a company known as Windermere Lake Cruises. There were three main options for the tours -these ranged from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. We opted for the 45 minute tour which provided us with some stunning views of the Lake. It cost us £8 each for the tour.
The tour take you in an anticlockwise directly - starting out towards Ambleside and then heads towards Lakeside.
The photo above is us leaving the Ambleside of the Lake - I think it also really demonstrates the size of the lake. I don't think you can really appreciate how big it is until you are right in the centre. I hate to think how deep it is! Garry spent some time trying to convince me it could have its own Loch Ness Monster!!!!!!!
We have decided that I am not very good at taking 'selfies' - I always look worried, but it has nearly become compulsory that I take a photo of myself when I actually make it on and survive a boat trip! I am very far removed from every being a fisherman and my sea legs have never quite found me. Luckily the calmness of the Lake made this boat ride very calm and enjoyable for me!
