Wonderful Wivenhoe

Where can I start with Wivenhoe - its beautiful river - its lovely quaint houses full of character - the amazing pubs or the peaceful atmosphere it gives off as soon as you arrive. Every time I visit I always come away thinking how lovely it would be to live in such a village. Although truth be told Wivenhoe is more like a small town and the population is growing. I would be picky however and want to live in a little cottage by the riverfront looking out at this view every day. For now however the dream is a bit out of reach and I will continue enjoying visiting friends who are already lucky enough to live there.

After hopping on a train from Ipswich and changing at Colchester we arrived in Wivenhoe just as the sun was setting. It was still slightly too fresh to be sitting outside and we quickly hid ourselves away in the warmth of the Rose and Crown.

The pub looks out on to the river and has a cosy feel to it. We arrived at an extremely busy time however and were very lucky to get a table with a view. They had also run out of a lot of things - including several of the beers and only had a couple of options on crisps. The bar staff also seemed very surprised by this though so I don't think they are normally so short. It must have been everyone coming out to enjoy the nice weather. We decided to settle in for a few drinks before heading to our friends for a curry night. Had a really enjoyable time and the food smelt lovely.
